GRADUATE STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY

Wanda Harvey Evans

I gleaned a lot from her so much that looking for a preceptor or mentor or midwife I was able to be a birth assistant actually for two midwives.

Keyah Haywood

I definite felt like I stumbled upon a gem. We learned a lot of hands-on training and we had genuine help throughout the process. I add value to a birth team especially to my midwife. The results is that I am able to work with a few midwives opposed to just one.

Natalie Harrow

A 10 out of 10. The learn at your own pace schedule is just great for moms with busy schedules. I am glad to be a midwife assistant; first in Canada it seems and I can't wait to see the expansion of the midwife assistant sector.

This work is my mission.

Hi, I'm Christina Jemine, a licensed, Certified Professional Midwife dedicated to training the next generation of Black birth assistants in the art of birth assisting. I founded Black Sisters Birth Academy® to provide aspiring Black community midwives and aspiring Black birth assistants with a dedicated training space intentionally designed for them to develop their skills and profession.

You might be wondering "WHY" did I create Black Sisters Birth Academy®? Well, for one, when I became a midwife, I was in search of any Black-led birth assistant training program to train my own birth assistant and the options weren’t there. I’ve learnt for myself if you don’t see what you want, build it. So I did.

In the Summer of 2019, I created a birth assistant workshop training, initially thinking it was a one time event. Clearly, God had other plans for me. The souls I met from that workshop literally moved me to create a place for us to call our own. In response to the growing demand for more training opportunities, I created Black Sisters Birth Academy®. In no way was this calling easy, BUT It was necessary, and I was committed to answering the call.

Since its inception, Black Sisters Birth Academy® has become the first and only Black-owned and led birth assistant academy in the U.S. We have successfully trained and certified birth assistants across the nation, from California to Arkansas, enabling them to work confidently alongside community midwives to show and prove that BIRTH: It's What We DO.

It is my mission to help you amplify your ancestral gift as a birth assistant through our comprehensive, curriculum-based programs. Together, we will unearth your skills to support our community midwives and birthing families.

Our programs are effective and serve as a natural first step into midwifery care for those ready to become birth assistants. This path requires commitment. If you are not prepared to do the work you are called to do, please do not apply. For those who are committed, welcome home, sis. Let's get to work.
