Birth Assistant Program

INSPIRING & NURTURING IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF BLACK BIRTH ASSISTANTS IN EXCELLENCE IS OUR PROGRAM'S PROMISE

A growing number of Black women who are interested in working with community midwives are looking for training that is for us and by us with intentional space created for the successful development of our skills and profession. Black Sisters Birth Academy™ train, and support the development of Black women in becoming professional birth assistants to work side by side with community midwives through our online program. We see the God in YOU. BIRTH: It's What We DO. 

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO OUR PRE-LAUNCH PROGRAM

Black Sisters Birth Academy™ is an online program that includes a curriculum designed to support your development as you train to become a professional birth assistant with monthly module reviews, virtual quarterly skill days, and external assignments inclusive of clinical experiences with community midwives.  HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogen and OSHA Certifications  will be issued upon completion of our online course.

 

During our pre-launch period our online course will be hosted LIVE via Zoom. The following components are REQUIRED to complete our program:

PHASE ONE:

  • Completion of our Online Birth Assistant Certification Course

  • Proof of Phlebotomy, Venipuncture, and IV Techniques Certification  (External Online Course). Possible Exemption For Healthcare workers. See FAQ for more details.

PHASE TWO:

  • Clinical Experience with a community midwife(s). Attendance at 3 prenatal visits (at 36 weeks +) and 3 out-of-hospital births is required.*

 

*Three Continuity of Care Cases are required for our program's completion. Attendance at 3 prenatal visits (at 36 weeks +) and 3 out-of-hospital births is required. These cases are to be done under the supervision of a community midwife. You MUST successfully complete PHASE ONE before attending your clinical experiences (PHASE TWO). We have created a framework to assist you in transitioning into PHASE TWO.

Must be a Black woman, 18 years old or older and meet our Program Prerequisites Requirements listed on our Admissions Page.

CPR

Cardiopulmonary

Resuscitation

American Heart Association: This certification is designed in two parts.

 

Part 1: Complete the Heartsaver CPR AED Online: eLearning Portion - Heartsaver CPR AED Blended Learning Course. Part 2: Find a certified CPR instructor to complete the hand-on skills portion.  Proof of CPR certification must be submitted prior to starting PHASE TWO of the program.

NRP

Neonatal

Resuscitation Program

The American Academy of Pediatrics:  This certification is designed in two parts.

 

Part 1: Complete the 8th Edition Online NRP Test (Pathway: ESSENTIALS).

Part 2: Find a certified NRP instructor to complete the hand-on skills portion. Proof of NRP certification must be submitted prior to starting PHASE TWO of the program.

Phlebotomy, Venipuncture, and IV Techniques Certification 

This course and certification is provided by Future Doctor Academy. Phlebotomy, Venipuncture, and IV Techniques Certification. 

 

You MUST successfully complete this course within 12 weeks from the date of your enrollment into it. Proof of certification must be submitted prior to starting PHASE TWO of the program.(Possible Exemption For Healthcare workers. See FAQ for more details.)
