Hands-On Basic Skills Training For
New Student Midwives

This skills training course is ideal for New Midwifery Students taking the NARM PEP (Portfolio Evaluation Process) Route or the MEAC Educational Program / School Route. Traditional Midwifery Students are welcome to attend.

8 AM - 6 PM EST

Kissimmee, FL

(35-45 minutes away from Orlando International Airport)

Continental Breakfast & Light Refreshments Provided

Certification of Completion and /or Student Sign-Off For PEP and MEAC Students Offered On-Site For Items Covered During Training ONLY.

COURSE PREREQUISITES

1.) Must be a Black woman, 18 years old or older

 

2.) Must be an student midwife taking the NARM PEP (Portfolio Evaluation Process) Route, MEAC Educational Program / School Route or Traditional Midwife Route (Midwifery Apprenticeship)

3.) Proof of a valid U.S. government-issued photo identification 

 

4.) Physical Requirements: Participants are required to have a full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Light Work is required - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or when it requires sitting most of the time.

  • Identifying Birth related medical supplies, equipment, and use

  • Performing and recording maternal vital signs and fetal assessment

  • Birth room set up

  • Donning sterile gloves and Set-up a sterile field 

  • Birth room clean up

  • Sterilization of tools

  • How to handle obstetrical emergency: Shoulder dystocia & Postpartum hemorrhaging

  • Assessment of the placenta and blood loss estimation

  • Common obstetric medications and administration of injectable medications

  • Priming an IV (Intravenous) line

  • Venipuncture, Phlebotomy and Intravenous Insertion

  • Medical Documentation

  • Skills Drill Check Off (Group & 1:1 Sessions)

  • NRP Hands-On Skills Checkoff
