Black Sisters Birth Academy™ is an online program that includes a curriculum designed to support your development as you train to become a professional birth assistant with monthly module reviews, virtual quarterly skill days and external assignments inclusive of clinical experiences with community midwives. Enrollment is a limited number of students. If your application is accepted you are required to complete the remainder of your application process.


1.) Complete your online application to be considered for enrollment

2.) Application Fee: $50 USD (Non-Refundable)

Completed applications will be reviewed within 3 to 4 business days.


1.) Must be a Black woman, 18 years old or older who is soul-led, high-achieving and self-motivated


2.) Proof of a valid U.S. government-issued photo identification 


3.) Proof of a High School Diploma, equivalent or higher

4.) Physical Requirements: Students are required to have a full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Light Work is required - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or when it requires sitting most of the time. 


5.) Must research your state's midwifery laws in regards to birth/midwife's assistant (IF APPLICABLE). Verify with your local licensed midwife as well about their hiring requirements in conjunction to your state's midwifery law. (Must submit proof of your state's midwifery law if your application is approved).


6.) Good support systems for yourself & your family (e.i.: Healthy networking relationships, Reliable childcare, etc.)


7.) Able to be on-call for births including nights when scheduled


8.) Reliable transportation (Own your own or have access to a functioning vehicle)


9.) Access to a computer, laptop and internet access


10.) Functioning cell phone with reliable service


11.) The ability to purchase equipment and supplies for the completion of your program. The cost varies depending upon the source.

12.) The ability to pay your Tuition and fees.

  • Copy of a valid U.S. government-issued photo identification (U.S. Driver's License, U.S. Passport / Card or Permanent Resident Card)

  • Proof of a High School Diploma, equivalent or higher

  • Submit a document with the link to your state's midwifery laws


*HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogen and OSHA Certifications will be issued within our online Birth Assistant course.

*EXEMPTION: Healthcare workers may be exempt on a case by case bases from the Venipuncture Course based upon an approved active licensure & / certification.

*Three Continuity of Care Cases are required for our program's completion. Attendance at three (3) prenatal visits (at 36 weeks +) and three (3) out-of-hospital births is required. These cases are to be done under the supervision of a community midwife. You MUST successfully complete your online course with submitted proof of your CPR, NRP and Venipuncture certifications before attending your clinical experiences. In the event the client is transferred before or during the birth you may attend a different client’s birth for credit towards your certification. We have created a framework to assist you in transitioning into PHASE TWO.
